Overview

Venice Marco Polo Airport (IATA: VCE, ICAO: LIPZ) stands at Tessera on the lagoon shore, 15 km north of the historic centre, and is the main airport of north-east Italy: it closed 2025 with 11.85 million passengers, up 2% on the year before, confirming its position as Italy's third intercontinental hub — a quarter of its traffic is long-haul, direct or connecting. It is a base for Volotea, Ryanair, Wizz Air and easyJet, and is served by ITA Airways, Lufthansa, Air France, KLM, British Airways and Emirates, with seasonal links to North America, South Korea and the Middle East. Buses run from the terminal to Piazzale Roma and Mestre, and Alilaguna waterbuses to St Mark's and the islands, but the direct connection to a specific address is a private transfer: 20 minutes to Piazzale Roma, 18 to Mestre, under two hours to Cortina d'Ampezzo. One thing to know before booking: no road vehicle enters the historic centre. The road ends at Piazzale Roma, and from there you continue by waterbus, water taxi or on foot.

Terminals

Marco Polo has a single passenger terminal, extended several times, with arrivals on the ground floor and departures above. The boat dock — Alilaguna and water taxis — is reached from the terminal by a covered walkway with moving walkways, about seven minutes. Private transfers collect passengers at the arrivals exit, in the public area.

Where to find your driver

After baggage reclaim follow the "Exit" signs. Your Venice Private Transfers driver waits in the arrivals hall, beyond the automatic doors, holding a board with your surname. If your flight is delayed we track the actual landing time and the driver waits up to 60 minutes after touchdown at no extra cost. If you cannot find them, call the number sent by email and WhatsApp with your booking confirmation.

Frequently asked questions

How far is Venice airport from the historic centre?+

Marco Polo is 15 km from Piazzale Roma, about 20 minutes by car across the Ponte della Libertà causeway. Piazzale Roma is the closest point to the historic centre any vehicle can reach; from there you continue by waterbus, water taxi or on foot.

How much does a private transfer from Venice airport to the centre cost?+

From €75 for a standard vehicle up to 3 passengers, €100 for a Mercedes V-Class up to 6. The price is per vehicle, not per person, and is fixed when you confirm.

Can the car take me to my hotel in Venice?+

No, and it is not a limitation of the service: Venice has no roads for cars. Every vehicle stops at Piazzale Roma. Send us your hotel name and we will tell you whether the waterbus, a water taxi or a two-minute walk is the right onward step.

Is Venice airport open 24 hours?+

Yes, Marco Polo operates around the clock, and so do our transfers — including night arrivals and dawn departures.

How many passengers use Marco Polo?+

11.85 million in 2025, up 2% on 2024. It is Italy's third intercontinental airport, with about a quarter of traffic on long-haul routes.

Private transfer or the Alilaguna waterbus?+

Alilaguna is a shared boat: cheaper per person, 70–90 minutes to St Mark's. A private transfer reaches Piazzale Roma in 20 minutes, waits for your flight and costs one fixed price per vehicle — usually the better deal from three passengers, and always with heavy luggage.

Will the driver wait if my flight is late?+

Yes. We monitor the flight in real time and the driver adjusts the pick-up automatically, waiting up to 60 minutes after actual landing at no extra charge.

Can I pay the driver in cash or by card?+

Yes, on board in cash or by card. No deposit is required to confirm a booking.

Are child seats available?+

Yes, free up to age 12. Give us ages and weights at booking and the correct seat is fitted before you are met.

Can I reach the Dolomites from Marco Polo?+

Yes: Cortina d'Ampezzo is 147 km, about one hour 45 minutes, from €360 per vehicle, with skis and snowboards carried free. We also serve Arabba, Alleghe and the other Dolomite valleys.
