About the destination
Between Conegliano and Valdobbiadene the plain buckles into a run of steep parallel ridges — the hogbacks — whose slopes have been terraced with vines since the seventeenth century, a landscape so distinctive that UNESCO inscribed it in 2019. This is the DOCG heartland of Prosecco Superiore, and of Cartizze, the 107-hectare cru whose sparkling wine is among the most expensive land in Italy. The Strada del Prosecco, Italy's first wine route, opened in 1966 and links cellars, abbeys such as Follina, and hilltop villages where the vineyards come right to the church wall.

Road, traffic and timing
The route follows the A27 north to Conegliano, then the ridge roads west through the DOCG vineyards to Valdobbiadene: 69 km, about an hour. Tolls are included. The final kilometres are narrow and steep, which is why a professional driver is the sensible choice on a tasting trip.
