Treviso
Sixteenth-century walls and the island fish market.
Treviso is ringed by sixteenth-century walls and crossed by canals fed by the springs of the Sile, Europe's longest resurgence river. It has frescoed façades, porticoes, a fish market on its own island in the middle of town, and a claim to have invented tiramisù. It is half an hour from Venice and nine minutes from Canova airport: many use it as a quiet base for visiting the lagoon.
