Murano and Burano
Furnaces since 1291 and the fishermen's coloured façades.
Murano and Burano are the two islands almost everyone adds to a Venetian stay: the first for blown glass, worked here since 1291 when the furnaces were moved out of the centre because of fire risk; the second for its saturated painted houses and needle lace. Both are reached by waterbus from Fondamente Nove: no car reaches either, and that has protected them.
